We are proud to share that our handmade crochet toys have successfully passed all parts of the EN 71 toy safety standard: EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3. This confirms that our products meet the strict safety requirements for toys sold in the UK and Europe and are suitable for young children, including babies from birth.

EN 71 is the European toy safety standard designed to ensure toys are safe during normal use and foreseeable misuse. All testing is carried out by an independent, accredited laboratory and focuses on key safety areas:

EN 71-1 – Mechanical & Physical Safety
This test checks the physical construction of the toy, including the strength of seams, joins, and overall durability. It ensures that parts do not detach easily and that there are no sharp edges or points that could pose a risk during play.

EN 71-2 – Flammability
This standard assesses how the materials react when exposed to fire. It ensures that the toy does not ignite easily and that flames do not spread rapidly, which is particularly important for soft, textile-based toys.

EN 71-3 – Chemical Safety
This test verifies that the materials used, including yarns and dyes, do not contain harmful levels of chemicals or heavy metals. Our toys are made using OEKO-TEX® certified yarns, providing an additional layer of reassurance for sensitive skin.

All tests were completed by an independent accredited laboratory, and our products passed every required stage. This means each piece is not only handmade with care, but also thoroughly tested for safety and quality.

Please note: All of our dolls can be made with embroidered sleeping (closed) eyes. These versions are EN 71-1 tested and approved and are suitable for babies from birth (0+ months).
Dolls with open or hard eye components are suitable for children aged 3+ years.

At Joy Gift London, safety is at the heart of everything we create. From material selection to final testing, every step is taken with your child’s wellbeing in mind — so you can shop with confidence.
